Product compliance

Compliance of plastic materials

The high quality of the products is guaranteed by careful selection of materials and suppliers. Close cooperation with them, combined with constant research and development, fosters innovative solutions geared toward continuous improvement and efficiency of production processes, with a strong commitment to sustainability and safeguarding the health of both those who produce and those who use the product.

Standard & High temperature plastic material

Depending on PCB soldering process, SAURO offers two types of insulating material. Standard, wave-soldered, hand-soldered or selective-soldered products, are made of polyamide. Alternately STH (THR-Through Hole Reflow, Pip-Pin in Paste) and SMD products are made of a glass fiber-filled polyphthalamide, which is featured by high melting temperature and low shrinkage, thus allowing use in reflow soldering processes while still granting adequate mechanical performance. Both materials are UL and VDE certified and are red phosphorus, dioxins, halogen and antimony trioxide free.

Surface discharge sealing capability

Material group I with a Comparative Tracking Index (CTI) value of 600V in accordance to IEC 60112 standard.

Class of flammability

Flame class V0 according to UL94 standard; plastic burning stops within 10 seconds after two applications of ten seconds each of a flame to a test bar vertically clamped.

Flammability tests

The raw insulating materials are in compliance with the Glow-Wire Flammability Index (GWFI) at 960°C according to IEC 60695-2-12 and Glow-Wire Ignition (GWIT) at 775°C according to IEC 60695-2-13. The GWFI test involves testing the maximum temperature at which the material does not spontaneously ignite or extinguish within 30 seconds after removal of the heated element without igniting the cotton placed under the specimen. The GWIT test verifies the minimum temperature at which the material ignites and burns for more than 5 seconds while the heated element remains in contact with the specimen. The test is performed on multiple specimens of specific thickness.

Suitability for use in domestic and similar applications

The entire range of SAURO products are suitable for use in domestic applications subject to European Standard EN 60335-1, such as appliances, thermostats, automation systems and similar electrical devices.

Recycling of manufacturing scrap

To promote sustainability in manufacturing departments, the initiative to reuse manufacturing scraps has been taken. After careful selection of manufacturing surplus from the molding of the plastic body and accessories, these are recycled in accordance with stringent UL standards.

Compliance of metallic materials

The high quality of the products is guaranteed by careful selection of materials and suppliers. Close cooperation with them, combined with constant research and development, fosters innovative solutions geared toward continuous improvement and efficiency of production processes, with a strong commitment to sustainability and safeguarding the health of both those who produce and those who use the product.

Special copper alloys

Screw products are made with metal components in special copper alloys, ensuring consistent characteristics over time and providing maximum safety and reliability. Due to the exclusive use of these alloys, the products are designed to withstand harsh environmental and operational conditions, such as those found in marine and coastal settings, chemical industries, and outdoor applications.

Since always, the solution against rust

As SAURO screws and clamps are made of copper alloy there is no possibility for electrolytic corrosion. Electrolytic corrosion (electrolysis) occurs when different metals are in contact in the presence of an electrolyte, such as moisture. Electrolytic corrosion involves the degradation of the less noble metal, i.e., the formation of rust, such as that formed on iron screws in contact with copper alloy clamps.

Prevention of tin whisker phenomenon

The phenomenon of tin whiskers, which can occur between adjacent terminals soldered on the board, is a serious risk, as it can cause short circuits and arcing. This phenomenon is prevented by applying a layer of nickel under the tin layer on the terminals.

Salt spray resistance

SAURO products, when subjected to the salt spray test, remain completely unaffected and show no signs of red (rust) or white (zinc chloride) corrosion. This test, performed according to UNI EN ISO 9227-06, verifies the resistance of materials under operating conditions (wire properly tightened) by exposing them for 168 hours (7 days) to the corrosive action of salt (NaCl) in a concentration similar to that found in marine and coastal environments.

Ammonia resistance

All products with spring clamping technology and, in all cases, with stainless steel metal components can be used in environments where ammonia is present (NH3) such as agricultural and live stock applications or chemical industries without any type of damage to the metallic parts.

Recycling of manufacturing scrap

To promote sustainability in manufacturing departments, we have taken the initiative to reuse manufacturing scraps. We therefore recycle scraps from the molding and processing of various metal components.
